Luca Bacchetti on tour – Austin, Texas day 1

We published an article last year (here) about the tour by two local musicians, Andrea Guzzoletti and Luca Bacchetti. This year they are back once more on the road but we will be following them a little more closely as Andrea will be sending us articles about the tour on a regular basis.

After a 13 hour flight we finally arrived in Austin, Texas, a couple of hours sleep in the hotel and then straight to the club. The following day the guys from the Kingdom then took us to a fantastic barbeque.

Luca Bacchetti is one of the foremost proponents of the seminal swing sound coming from Italy and abroad. Currently residing in Barcelona, the DJ, producer and co- label head makes swift business of spreading his signature twists and musical turns through myriad productions and remixes released on Ovum Recordings, Crosstown Rebels, Wagon Repair, Be As One, Defected, Supernature, Sci+Tec, Tenax, Safari Electronique and of course his label, Hideout.
Additionally, he’s accrued a host of accolades including a nod for Beatport’s best artist in 2008 that confirms Luca’s status as an industry leader.

As a DJ, Bacchetti’s style is incomparable, showcasing his unique ear for selection and rare ‘voice’ to which he adds a sexiness uncommon amongst his peers. Equally versed at moving a dark basement club to fits of revelry as he is to casting a deep shadow across a sunny beach party, the breadth and depth of sources from which Luca culls his sets astounds constantly. It is this duality of emotion that interests the DJ and inspires the work on many releases.

The contrasting shades of Luca’s sound have not been lost on the world’s clubbing masses. Hi Luca, What have you been up to recently? Gigs around the USA plus some new projects, I have a lot of music that I’m working on and particularly my new label ENDLESS which kicks-of at the end of October and is keeping me very busy. Have you heard the new stuff?? It’s a time of new projects and challenges – very exciting.

Andrea Guzzoletti (b. 23/05/72 – Barga – Lucca – Italy). Graduated at the Lucca Conservatoire “L. Boccherini” in ‘93 as a trumpet player. Following this he continued to perfect his technique with M° Pierre Thibaud in Paris. In 1994 he obtained the High Professional Qualification for Musicians EEC Masters Degree – Jazz and Contemporary Derivations with Paolo Fresu. In 2000 he completed the Berklee College of Music Masters Course at Umbria Jazz. He has been a member of the Italian Jazz Youth Orchestra, on tour with the Peter Erskine John Taylor and Palle Danielsson trio and subsequently with the flautist James Newton. Since 1995 he is an established member of the Barga Jazz Orchestra directed by M° Bruno Tommaso. In December 2006 he founded his independent publishing house, Even Eights Records, with which he has promoted a variety of projects together with a couple of friends who are considered amongst the top contemporary jazz musicians active in Italy Stefano Onorati and Roberto Cecchetto. Together with them he has consolidated his compositional output with scores for promotional videos commissioned by Iveco and the All Blacks during the World Rugby Championship in France. However his most important venture is the experimental mix of Jazz and Improvisation and Dance and Underground Music.
