Trebbiatura – 7th Annual steam powered grain threshing festival

The Committee at San Pietro in Campo have outdone themselves once again this year with the Festa della Trebbiatura.

68 agricultural tractors took part in the parade through the city before all moving onto San Pietro in Campo.

What started out as a small festa in the village to celebrate using the old machinery and tractors to thresh the grain and prepare bales of straw has in the space of just seven years blossomed into a full blown festival of the old traditions once used in this area with everything from bread making, grain preparing and even to roasting grain to make “coffee”.

They have also organised inside this event an art  happening with Sandra Rigali for young artists to paint for the day  but the real crowd puller was once again the magnificent tractors and agricultural machinery that were on display.

Not only the Landini vintage tractor that usually powers the threshing machine but also the star of the show this year -  an early 1900 steam engine.

Alla fine dell’estate 2005 nacque l’idea di trebbiare il grano in San Pietri in Campo. Ne parlammo tra di noi, ne fummo entusiasti e l’idea subito prese forma: coinvolgemmo la famiglia Motroni che dettero la loro disponibilità per l’attrezzatura per trebbiare e per seminare un campo di grano. Il 16 luglio 2006 organizzammo nel campo adiacente alla chiesa la prima “Rievoczione della macchinatura del grano”

La festa della trebbiatura giunta alla 7^ edizione è diventata un appuntamento che intende far rivivere un momento saliente della vita contadina di un tempo,un momento di allegria e di riscoperta delle tradizioni di una volta.

Faremo rivivere con le attrezzature di un tempo, il giorno della trebbiatura quando nelle nostre campagne si concludeva il ciclo del raccolto con una giornata di duro lavoro ma anche di festa … di festa perché, dopo un anno di fatiche e di sacrifici, gli agricoltori disponevano del tanto atteso raccolto.
